Specific Responsibility
- Leads tooling projects providing guidance and direction to ensure alignment with project deliverables.
- Works Independently on creation of detailed CAD models, assemblies and drawings (Tools and Fixtures)
- Works independently on 3D designs of production tooling for simple and complex elastomer compression molds.
- Works independently or supports Senior Designer/Engineers with design of highly complex composites aerospace tooling.
- Works independently or supports Senior Designers/Engineers with design of highly complex plastic injection mold tooling.
- Independently make revisions to legacy or new designs while following approved revision control procedures.
- Check and approve completed designs by other tooling designers or engineers.
- Work with internal and external tool shops on the manufacture of tools and fixtures. This includes quoting of tool and fixture builds and submission of purchase requests as well as maintaining communication with toolshops (internal and external) to provide updates.
- Provides appropriate support and technical guidance for projects as required
- Anticipates and addresses issues and communicates that information proactively to the Tooling Manager.
- Technical lead tooling representative in DFM meetings to communicate any product design requirements that pertain to robust tool design and build. Provides quotes for price and lead time for all tool design and build requirements either through communications with outside vendors, or internal machine shops.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting issues for production tooling and recommending path forward to toolmakers when necessary.
- Works on continuous improvement projects for tooling related to, but not limited to design, machining processes, cost savings, work instruction updates ect…
- Manage, maintain and update of tooling design templates and design automation software.
- Utilizes, monitors and recommends improvements or changes to all systems for the production of Tool Designs required and ensures compliance with structured internal Quality Systems as measured by routine system audits. Properly utilize and maintain digital file storage system to protect and control the electronic data generated within Greene, Tweed Engineering function.
- Assist with the creation of and work within the work instructions and guidelines set forth for internal tool design standards.
- Provides mentoring and guidance for junior staff technical development.
Required Minimum Qualifications
3 - 5 years tool and die design experience. Compression and/or Injection molding preferred.
Education
BS in Mechanical Engineering/Plastic Engineering or equivalent degree
Essential Skills and Experience
Highly skilled/technical mechanical design and use of 3D CAD systems (Solidworks preferred). Experience working with elastomer and/or plastics products in a manufacturing role. Ability to communicate clearly and work in a team environment. Experience using PLM systems (3D Experience preferred).
Non-Essential Skills
Machine shop/toolshop exposure, Lean Six Sigma exposure, Driveworks CAD design automation software.
