Full-Time (Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM)

Salary

$90,000 - $110,000 / year (commensurate with experience)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced

Injection Mold Design & Project Engineer

to lead custom mold design projects from initial concept through T1 sampling and final handover. In this dual-function role, you will leverage your expertise in SolidWorks to create robust 2D/3D tool designs while managing project timelines, cross-functional collaboration, supplier coordination, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities

Mold Design & Engineering

  • Full Tool Design:

Translate part models and product requirements into complete, production-ready 2D/3D mold designs in SolidWorks (core/cavity, gating, runners, hot/cold manifolds, cooling, ejection, slides/lifters, and venting).

  • Manufacturability & Analysis:

Conduct parting line development, draft analysis, shrinkage/warpage allowances, steel-safe strategies, DFM/DFMEA, and Moldflow/pre-simulation reviews to optimize gate placement, filling, and cooling.

  • Component Selection & Specs:

Select mold bases, materials/steels (H13, P20, S7, stainless), standard components, surface finishes, and tight tolerances.

  • Documentation:

Generate comprehensive 2D detailing, component drawings, and BOMs for machining, EDM, and assembly. Manage ECOs and revision history.

Project Management & Execution

  • End-to-End Ownership:

Lead assigned tooling projects from kick-off through design reviews, T1 sampling, toolroom/supplier release, and final validation.

  • Schedule & Budget Control:

Define project scope, track milestones, manage budgets, identify risks, and execute mitigation strategies to ensure on-time delivery.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Partner closely with internal tooling, CNC machining, EDM, and press operators, as well as external suppliers and stakeholders.

  • Continuous Improvement:

Document design standards, refine design libraries/templates, and capture lessons learned to drive process efficiencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:

3–7 years of hands-on injection mold design experience (multi-cavity, family tools, hot runners, complex actions).

  • Software:

Expert proficiency in

SolidWorks

for 3D mold design and 2D drafting/detailing.

  • Project Management:

Proven experience driving tooling projects from initial concept through press sampling (T1) and validation.

  • Technical Knowledge:

Deep understanding of machining processes, EDM operations, mold steel selection, and polymer behavior (shrinkage, rheology, design-for-molding).

  • Hands-On Skills:

On-floor experience with mold tryouts, press sampling, press troubleshooting, and mold builds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with regulated/medical device manufacturing (IQ/OQ/PQ protocols).
  • Familiarity with conformal cooling, 3D-printed/additive inserts, valve gating, high-speed/high-cavitation tooling, thin-wall molding, or unscrewing mechanisms.

Why Join Us?

  • Stable Schedule:

Standard daytime hours (M–F, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM).

  • Competitive Compensation:

Base salary range of $90k – $110k plus comprehensive benefits package.

  • Impact & Ownership:

Complete autonomy over your tooling projects from initial blueprint to final press run.
