In this hands-on development role, you will lead the advancement of ceramic core materials and manufacturing processes used in the production of complex gas turbine components.
Working across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and design teams, you will develop new ceramic materials, optimize ceramic core production processes, support investment casting operations, and drive technologies from laboratory development through industrial-scale manufacturing. This role offers the opportunity to solve complex materials challenges while helping bring next-generation turbine technologies to market.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Develop and optimize advanced ceramic materials, feedstocks, and ceramic core formulations for gas turbine applications.
- Lead process development activities involving ceramic core manufacturing, including injection molding, slip casting, forming, debinding, and sintering.
- Support and improve investment casting processes through close collaboration with foundry and manufacturing teams.
- Design and execute experimental programs to characterize material performance and improve process capability, yield, and quality.
- Analyze material behavior using microscopy, thermal analysis, mechanical testing, and other advanced characterization techniques.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to improve critical-to-function features and component performance.
- Support pilot production, new product introduction (NPI), and manufacturing scale-up activities.
- Identify and resolve technical issues through root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive industrialization efforts to transition new ceramic core technologies into production environments.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3-8+ years of hands-on experience in ceramic manufacturing and process development.
- Direct experience with ceramic core manufacturing for investment casting applications.
- Direct experience supporting or developing investment casting processes and ceramic core technologies.
- Hands-on experience with ceramic processing methods including injection molding, slip casting, forming, debinding, and sintering.
- Experience conducting material characterization using optical microscopy, SEM, thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, DTA), density measurement, porosity analysis, and mechanical testing.
- Experience planning and executing Design of Experiments (DOE), process development, and materials qualification activities.
- Demonstrated success supporting technology development, pilot production, manufacturing scale-up, or commercialization efforts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and quality organizations.
- Excellent communication and project coordination skills.
- Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting gas turbine, aerospace, or high-temperature industrial applications.
- Experience with ceramic dimensional inspection methods, including CT scanning and 3D metrology.
- Knowledge of ceramic matrix composites (CMC), refractory ceramics, or high-temperature materials systems.
- Experience working within integrated product teams (IPT).
- Familiarity with statistical process control, process capability analysis, and manufacturing excellence methodologies.
