Advertised Job Summary

The Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing at the University of South Carolina is continuing to expand its tenured and tenure-track ranks significantly. As part of this growth, the Department of Chemical Engineering seeks to add a tenured or tenure-track faculty member to begin in Fall 2027. This position will be located in Columbia, SC. degree in chemical engineering or a related field by the time of appointment and demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research; applicants for the rank of Associate Professor and Full Professor must also have years of relevant academic experience commensurate with academic policy by the time of appointment, with a strong, sustained record of excellence in teaching and research. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and sustain an internationally recognized research program.

The focus of this search is in the area of advanced battery science and engineering. The state of SC has seen a large amount of private investment (>$10B) in battery development and manufacturing, which is expected to create 10,000+ jobs over the next decade. USC is building from our already strong team in this area (19 faculty) and supporting this industry through activities within the newly formed Carolina Institute for Battery Innovation (CIBI).

Specific research areas of interest for this search include: i) electrochemical modeling, preferably including advanced machine learning and AI; ii) battery safety and reliability; iii) novel approaches to recycling; and iv) new chemistries and active materials.
