Summary
The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for leading program level designs and prototype fabrications for composite design solutions. The Senior Design Engineer utilizes standard composite structural analyses and modeling to develop innovative solutions to customer program requirements and needs. The Senior Design Engineer also utilizes, as well as mentors, design engineers as part of a complete team to ensure program design activities, goals, and targets are completed on-time, on budget, and are successful. Key emphasis is the ability to lead a fast-paced design team to bring composite solutions from concept through prototyping/production for LEC customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conceptual and detailed design of composite components and assemblies
- Perform and present gated design reviews with both internal staff, as well as with customers at specific times in the design lifecycle of components
- Ability to perform and review detailed finite element structural analysis of composites and assemblies to investigate performance to customer requirements
- Conceptual design of composite components and assemblies to support proposals
- Generate solid and surface components and assembly CAD models
- Develop innovative solutions to customer requirements for composite components designs
- Work as part of a team of design engineers and manufacturing staff to bring designs through the life cycle of the project
Education, Training, Skills and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5-10+ years relevant work experience
- Experience with detailed composite part/assembly design analysis is required
- Experience with composite part fabrication and assembly is required
- Advanced working knowledge of Solidworks 2015 or later and/or CATIA V5 R2016 or later.
- All Microsoft Office software including Project 2010 or later
- Ability to read and interpret technical data
- Great problem solving and communication skills
- Flexible work schedule to support delivery process and meet customer expectations.
- Ability to work on projects demanding fast prototype/production startups
- Ability to work with vendors, customers and employees
- Ability to maintain safe work environment
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods of time
- Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry bulky or heavy objects
- See details of objects whether they are nearby or far away
- See differences between colors, shades, and brightness
- Must be able to lift over 40 lbs.
- Ability to wear PPE equipment as required
