- Provide consulting services to Chemours global chemical businesses in non-metallic materials engineering and related technologies, including technical support to plant operations, capital projects and research and development.
- Scope of role includes assisting in materials selection (fiberglass, elastomers, graphite, glass and polymers – including liners), project support, mechanical integrity quality assurance (MIQA) support, equipment design and calculations, fabrication and repair assistance, welding, failure analysis support, equipment inspection/condition assessment, and provide technical training.
- Provide technical recommendations and perform all job duties while adhering to and embodying Chemours Safety obsession.
- Operate as the Materials lead for all aspects throughout the duration of the project execution. Work with external vendors to provide technical input on design, fabrication, and repairs. Be able to summarize and communicate complex technical ideas clearly and succinctly to varied audiences.
- Prepare technical reports on assigned tasks. Assist in specification preparation and reviews, complete inspection reports on equipment during fabrication, installation and in- operation.
- Network with company resources, cross-functional teams, and external vendors to achieve economical yet feasible solutions to time sensitive business problems. Participate in applicable technical organizations like ASME and MTI (Materials Technology Institute).
- Required travel: Approx. 35% to plant sites, fabrication shops, face-to-face interactions.
The Following Is Required For This Role
BS in Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated background in non-metallic materials OR Polymer, Chemical, or Materials Engineering with a heavy emphasis on engineering mechanics
- 5-10 years of experience in Chemical Process or related Industries with involvement in the multiple fabrication phases of a variety of non-metallic materials of constructions and/or in similar fields.
- Demonstrated experience with design, fabrication, and project process flow for obtaining newly fabricated non-metallic equipment or repair and replacement of existing non-metallic equipment.
- Comfortable working in a team environment; high degree of initiative and self-motivation; flexibility to monitor and drive projects forward quickly and safely while also being able to deal with ambiguity by applying good judgement and logic.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and generating equipment drawings and design sketches, equipment and project specifications, and upkeep of internal standards in alignment with industry standards. In addition, a willingness to participate in competency related Codes and Organizations, such as ASME or similar.
The Following Is Preferred For This Role
- Advanced degree in Mechanical, Polymer, Chemical, or Materials Engineering with Experience working on a Chemical Process site in a safe and comfortable manner.
- Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, solve or help others solve equipment and/or process issues. Experience with RCFA (Root Cause Failure Analysis) process, specifically with non-metallic materials.
- History of technical leadership and direction for complex engineering projects from inception to completion
- Experience with relevant codes and standards, such as ASME Section X, RTP-1 and ASTM F1545
- Understand and perform calculations related to flange design, strength, sealing, etc.
