Position Summary

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will carry out advanced research under the supervision of Dr. Ana Bedran-Russo in the Department of Oral Biology at the University of Illinois Chicago. The position focuses on interdisciplinary research centered on fundamental and translational studies on artificial and biological interfaces of mineralized dental tissues and bioinspired modulation strategies for the development of novel dental biomaterials. Duties & Responsibilities

• Carry out various experimental studies, becoming well-versed in multi-scale mechanical analytical methods, spectroscopic assays for biochemical characterizations, high-resolution imaging, and cell viability studies
• Use of data management programs and perform data analysis
• Prepare reports and peer review manuscripts
• Mentoring and training of students
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Material Sciences, Biomaterials or related field.
• Excellent academic track records, including first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Must have excellent organizational and communication skills and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong background in one of the following areas: extracellular matrix biochemistry, biomechanics, mineralized tissue, and biomineralization.
• Proficiency in quantitative protein analytical methods, atomic force microscopy, dynamic mechanical techniques, and ultrastructural imaging is preferable.
• Individuals with a doctoral degree in dentistry (DDS, DMD, or equivalent), in addition to a PhD degree.
