Zing Recruiting, in partnership with a leading automotive manufacturer in the Spartanburg, SC area, is seeking a Senior Extrusion Process Engineer to provide technical leadership and support across multiple manufacturing facilities. This is a hybrid engineering opportunity with approximately 60% of the role supporting the South Carolina facility and 40% supporting the company's Michigan operation. The position focuses on extrusion processing and technology, process standardization, continuous improvement, equipment and tooling development, quality, production performance, energy efficiency, and cost optimization.

The Senior Extrusion Process Engineer will work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Sales, Finance, Purchasing, Program Management, equipment suppliers, and other technical resources to support operational excellence, capacity expansion, new product launches, process development, and strategic business objectives.

Senior Extrusion Process Engineer Job Summary

• Position Type: Regular, Full-Time
• Location: Spartanburg, SC area

• Plant Support: Approximately 60% South Carolina / 40% Michigan
• Travel: Frequent domestic and international travel required
• Bonus: Annual bonus opportunity tied to plant KPIs and individual performance
• Provide technical leadership and support to multiple manufacturing facilities in extrusion processing and technology
• Work closely with manufacturing facilities to reduce costs, improve quality, and advance both process and product technology
• Lead the research and implementation of new or improved equipment, tooling, and extrusion processes to satisfy changing production requirements
• Work with outside machinery suppliers, machine shops, plant engineering, and maintenance teams on equipment and process improvement initiatives
• Assist with the validation of new processes as necessary
• Support customer product specification approvals or revisions when required
• Initiate projects and tasks through creative insight while leveraging manufacturing and product knowledge
• Confirm the feasibility and capability of proposed product and process improvements using statistical methods
• Assist with the transfer of products and processes between manufacturing facilities
• Serve as a technical communication link between technical and manufacturing teams, including other global regions, for the purpose of process development, best practice exchange, and standardization
• Develop and maintain global extrusion standards, equipment and tooling specifications, and process parameters
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on production performance, process capability, quality, energy efficiency, and cost optimization
• Troubleshoot manufacturing and process issues and develop effective solutions
• Support new product launches, capacity expansion, and process transfers between manufacturing facilities
• Stay current on developments related to manufacturing and product technology through meetings with suppliers, customers, trade publications, and other industry resources
• Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Finance, Purchasing, Program Management, and other teams to support strategic business objectives

Senior Extrusion Process Engineer Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field is preferred
• Typically 3+ years of relevant experience
• Strong extrusion manufacturing experience is required
• Experience with rubber extrusion, plastic extrusion, polymer processing, tubing, hose, sealing systems, weatherstrips, profiles, or similar extrusion applications is highly preferred
• Previous Process Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience
• Experience with continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma
• Knowledge of SPC, statistical analysis, process capability, DOE, or process validation
• Experience with equipment and tooling implementation or development
• Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
• Ability to solve problems and take a new perspective using existing solutions
• Ability to work independently and act as a technical resource for colleagues and manufacturing teams
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Demonstrated proactive approach to identifying and completing projects
• Willingness and ability to support multiple manufacturing facilities and travel domestically and internationally as necessary

• Must wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the manufacturing floor
• Frequent domestic and international travel required
