Job Summary

edu/) is seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in biomedical engineering, biomaterials, microfluidics and cell therapy to work on a collaborative project to assess effects of mitochondrial transfer on bone regeneration. Primary responsibilities will be to perform in vitro and in vivo studies to develop biomaterial carriers for mitochondrial and to assess mitochondrial transfer on cell function and bone healing, including histology, flow cytometry, micro-CT, metabolic assays, and proteomics characterization.
Interaction and coordination with ongoing projects in our National Science Foundation-funded Center for Cell Manufacturing Technologies and Marcus Center for Cell Biomanufacturing will be expected, in addition to participation in preparation of grant proposals.
The candidate will be expected to lead projects, work collaboratively with our team of researchers, and work closely with Center Leadership. This role requires hands-on in vitro and in vivo laboratory work. Grant and manuscript writing are also expected. Some Holiday or weekend time may be necessary. Some travel may be required.
Responsibilities
--------------------
Conduct in vitro and in vivo research in the area of mitochondrial transfer and regenerative medicine
Lead projects, including developing timelines and deliverables, and coordinate experiments based on priority analyses and milestones
Lead and support grant submissions to further expand Center's research reach and capabilities
Manage sponsored research work and relationships with collaborators, including establishment of new projects and relationships.
Oversee maintenance of documentation for project reporting
Develop and train other scientists
Report progress through presentations and monthly reports
Train and perform routine assays, data acquisition and analyses
Support day-to-day activities and operations - including project budgets, status, purchasing
Assist with general lab maintenance and systems
Required Qualifications

Research Scientist II
Master's degree in Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular/Cell Biology, Immunology, or other related field and three (3) years relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
Master's degree in Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular/Cell Biology, Immunology, or other related field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after the completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
Doctoral degree in Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular/Cell Biology, Immunology, or other related field.
Preferred Qualifications
----------------------------
Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced cross-functional environment, in the absence of set procedures and oversight.
A publication history in the fields of Molecular/Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Cell and Gene Therapy, and/or Biomaterials
Expertise and proficiency with benchtop techniques, cell culture, and analyses common in Molecular/Cell Biology and Bioengineering fields (e.g. statistical programs, sterile technique, etc.)
Background in mammalian cell culture, specifically mesenchymal stromal cells
Experience with mitochondrial isolation and characterization techniques (ex. fluorescent staining, oxygen consumption rate and associated metabolic assays, mitochondrial proteomics)
Strong experience with in vivo models for bone defects
Expertise in microfluidics for production of biomaterial carriers
Expertise in conjugation of biological moieties to biomaterials and subsequent polymer characterization (NMR or similar)
Proficiency in Microsoft office and graphical software
Strong skillset for data interpretation, project management, scientific writing, presentation of data
Effective communication of technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
Experience leading technical/scientific projects.
Proposed Salary
-------------------
Salary range for this position is between $50,874 - $83,048. Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.
